About Podiatric Surgery | Specialist Surgical Podiatry

Podiatric surgery is the surgical specialty of the podiatry profession. Specialist Surgical Podiatrists have completed extensive, post graduate medical and surgical training and perform reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. The qualifications are recognised by Australian State and Federal Governments. It is an approved specialty by the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Podiatric surgery is included within both the Health Insurance Act and the National Health Act.

Fellows of the ACPS are unique, having dedicated their energy over many years in research, investigation and mastery of medical and surgical therapeutics of the foot and ankle. For most disorders there is more than one form of treatment and management of foot and ankle problems. This may involve surgery, medicines, casts or splints and allied therapies. The merits of conservative and surgical treatment options for each individual patient will be discussed to help select an appropriate treatment plan.
